Baseball Mogul 2014

Baseball Mogul 2014 launches March 22nd!
It's official. Baseball Mogul 2014 will go on sale on March 25th.

As you would expect, we have made the following updates for the 2013 season:
  • The real 2013 schedule.
  • Updated stats through 2012.
  • Updated rosters.
  • New league format for 2013 (it's so weird seeing Houston in the AL West).
We also have some great new features to appeal to everyone from the pitch-by-pitch player to the stat geek to the front-office genius. These are the most noteworthy:
We've also been busy with many smaller improvements and fixing bugs (including this one, this onethis onethis one, and this one, as just a few examples).

Time to get back to work. Thanks for reading!

I would personally love to see an expansion team mode. But rather than using an old team with old rosters, allow us to create a new team and draft from every other mlb teams roster of unprotected players (each team would be able to proect a certain number of players on there 40 man roster, just like a real life expansion scenario.

I would like to see us able to move teams like the Chicago White Sox to a new city if we wanted to. Better artifical intelligence on pinch hitting. Many times pitchers for the opposing team will bat for themselves in the 7th 8th & 9th innings when their team is down a run or two.

Can't wait! The fact that my Reds are halfway decent again is forcing me to make this purchase!

Stats and trade AI are large draws, not so much the cosmetics, uniforms, etc. Thanks for all your hard work! Capchkas to post is very hard, yikes

Thank you for inputting actual minor league statistics. This will allow for prospects to become more real-to-life in the game.

Will be interesting to see just how much more improved the GM AI in the game has become with this reworking. Been looking forward to seeing more sensible trading and signings for a long time in Mogul. Maybe this will be the time.

Expansion team mode would be fantastic. This is something the game is definitely missing yet it has all the necessary programming in place to do so. You can add a team in Commissioner mode, but it gets filled with fictional players, it would be much better to be able to build like a real expansion team. Contraction would also be a nice feature to add, where you could contract a team and their roster would become free agents. I'd also like to have it be possible to have players be PH/P or OF/P types (think Jack Harshman, Don Robinson or Brooks Kieschnick).

You can actually move a team anywhere in the Mogul database, all you need to do is build a stadium in the offseason and your team can move. You have to set commissioner mode to change the team name, but you can move the Sox away from Chicago and to Honolulu or Portland if you so wish. I do this often in my games when my team gets too good, I'll move to a tiny market and do a fire sale and build over again.

I can't believe there still isn't a Modern Day Expansion mode added to the game. It should be easy to add to the game. I ask for it every year, and every year I'm disappointed.

I sure hope that there will be a demo of this product. :/

The real 2013 schedule.
Hooray!

New league format for 2013 (it's so weird seeing Houston in the AL West)
I agree with most of the comments. An expansion team mode would allow a GM to create two more teams & even out the divisions while returning Houston to the NL. Also move the Nationals/Senators back to the AL. And or back the Montreal Expos..

New animations, correctly reflecting team uniforms and player skin colors.
I do disagree with Anonymous’ comment about cosmetic, uniform changes. I welcome these upgrades since it makes the more realistic. Will the uniforms show the correct numbers?

Completely reworked General Manager AI, mimicking real-life trade and contract data.
I hope the earlier years will reflect the appropriate pricing for player contracts such as 1963 when he earned $100,000.

Individual strategy settings for each player, including pitch count limits.
I’m sorry if any of my suggestions have already been implemented since I haveny upgraded since 2007 but I plan to order the 2013 version come March 22nd. Thank you

I am a big fan of this game! And though I find it by far the most realistic simulation on the market, there a just a couple things that frustrate me each year...

The first is the "double switch". It seems as though the computer never uses the double switch.

Second is the non-existance of in-game injuries. You finish a game only to find that your 1st baseman is lost at the end of the game for 60 days due to a knee injury...yet he finished the game with no sign of injury and even hit the game winning home run. Are we to expect that all injuries happen AFTER the game is over? (falling down the dugout steps perhaps?)

Third would be the ability to review all trades and the abilty to approve/deny said trades. (like a pop-up each time teams are setting up trades). It was kind of stange seeing some unrealistic trades after the fact.

Finally, the schedule. It seems that starting with year two, the schedule is always messed up (i.e. does not follow the current MLB set up). I had seasons in which the Cubs were playing teams from all over the AL in one season, versus playing one division each year.

Anyway, like I said in the beginning, this is the BEST game on the market and I dont want me issues above to seem like I'm complaining. I guess when a product is so insanely close to reality, you yern for that final push to get to 100% perfection! It seems so close!!!!!

I digress - back to work...

It's been several years since I have played this game, so I will get it and take a break from OOTP13 for awhile.

One thing I liked about this game is the speed I could sim several seasons compared to OOTP. Love playing it!

Clay,

Under "Team", "Pitching", "Stats Shown", can you add a "Spring Training" option?

Thanks!

Yeah, the injury thing drives me insane. When did he have time to fracture his skull when he was hitting a walk-off double? How did my ace starting pitcher break his leg on his off-day?

But all these changes sound great! Looking forward to it.

Great game but I do agree with the injury comments mentioned below. My biggest issue with the game is when rosters expand on the Sept 1 date and your team automatically expands to 40 players. This is unrealistic in MLB today as rarely do teams expand to the full 40 players. Many teams, contenders especially may only bring up a handful of players if any when rosters expand. I think you should have the option of setting your roster at what you want between 25 to 40 instead of having to play with 40 the last month.

When will the series implement real-life roster/trade restrictions such as compensation picks, waivers, minor league assignment, etc? The lack of realistic trading marginalizes an otherwise fantastic series.

NOT ENOUGH MUSLIM PLAYER NAME!!!BE RESPECT OF DIVERSE CULTURE AND OPEN MINDEDNESS..A LOT OF AMERICAN AND HISPANIC NAME BUT NO MUSLIM PLAYERS YET..PLZ ADD NOW

Right, because there has been such a plethora of Muslim players in baseball....

I love the idea about not forcing roster expansion to a full 40 players. I get obsessive-compulsive about my legendary players having a "clean" career stat line every year. It drives me crazy when my AA prospect destined to be the second coming of Greg Maddux gets rocked in that premature major league debut that I didn't want him to make. For the rest of his career I have to see that ugly 27.00 ERA. He's forever tainted. So I do what any reasonable OCD Baseball Moguler would do: I trade my once-in-a-generation talent for a couple of lesser prospects who haven't (yet) gotten rocked in their major league debut.

Sometimes I even sign a bunch of washed-up scrubs from the free agent pool every August 30th and clog my 40-man roster with them, just to prevent these absolutely devastating tragedies from occurring.

Someone please tell me I'm not alone in this.

In future games, I would like more options for changing the league and playoff format. Right now, you can switch between two and three division leagues, and have a choice about the number of wild cards. But I would also like the option of adding more divisions. I would like to create a league that has a divisional and playoff format similar to the NFL. Four divisions with four teams each. Top two get byes. Wild Card teams are forced into a three game series at the home of the other two division winners.

I hate that I'm allowed to absolutely abuse the 40-man roster by bringing up my SP prospect once every five days, let him make his start, then send him back down to the minors. It's wrong that you can have your legendary pitcher snag the Rookie of the Year award and contend for the Cy Young while only accruing 35 days of major league service time. If you're truly obsessive about it, you can rack up a decade on his minimum contract before he ever hits arbitration.
